SHARING DRIVING LICENCE INFORMATION
From 8 June 2015, the driving licence counterpart will no longer have any legal status. In order for driving instructors, hire car companies, employers, etc to check driving entitlements they will need to access the online "Share Driving Licence" service and to do this they require a "Check Code" from the licence holder, which can only be used once and is only valid for 21 days together with the last 8 digits of the driving licence number.
To generate the "Check Code" please click here and provide the code together with the last 8 digits of your driving licence number to your driving instructor immediately.
Watch official videos below about how the DVSA theory and practical driving tests work to help you prepare.

When booking your practical driving test, the DVSA will send confirmation by e-mail to the e-mail address you supply them with. No conformation is sent to confirm a practical driving test so ensure you have received and printed off the confirmation e-mail.
You can find your theory test pass certificate number online if you have lost your original letter. You'll need this information when you book your practical driving test. CAR & TRAILER (Category B+E) LICENCE
If you passed your car (Category B) driving test on or after 1st January 1997, you will have more limited entitlements to tow a trailer than if you passed your driving test before this date. The regulations are slightly complex and can be found at Requirements for Towing Trailers in GB (MAM = permissible maximum weight also known as Gross Vehicle Weight. Unladen Mass = vehicles own weight when not carrying any goods or burden inclusive of the body and all parts which are necessary to or ordinarily used with the vehicle when working on a road, exclusive of fuel. Kerb Weight is the nearest readily available figure but will often include the weight of fuel, driver and possibly a luggage element).
As an example, a Kia Sorento 4x4 has a Kerb Weight of 2065kg but, if you passed your car drivng test on or after 1st January 1997, you can't tow a trailer with a MAM of 1435kg because the MAM of the Kia Sorento is 2640kg. You can only tow a trailer with a MAM of 860kg.
